i can’t even begin to tell you how happy this makes me. i adjusted my walk home to increase my chances of seeing these guys as often as possible. they blow you kisses when you give them money. my video is not so great, they have some pretty impressive dance moves i didn’t capture - you gotta see it for yourself.
went to the MCA this evening
mark bradford - this guy paints with paper. grew up in a hair salon and uses perm “end papers” in his art. many pieces look mappy. cool textures and compositions.
rad website too. once you get over the interface. i like the use of broom and step stool for scale.
chicago’s gettin’ lit up.
when i said i missed summer storms i didn’t know how good they could get, especially perched on the balcony of the 21st floor.
kv and i went to the 2nd Chicago International Poster Biennial tonight
some really beautiful work, tons from poland (yay)
these are some favorites
i really do, but I’m just not feeling so optimistic. I hope i’m proven wrong.
I hate that the shitty of chicago bans the sale of spray paint. I kinda forgot about it, doing most spray paint related activities in Milwaukee for the past several years, where such silly bans don’t exist.
I’m a crafter, not a vandal, and I need some goddam spray paint. I’d rather see a tag or two around the city than “richard m. daley, mayor” on everything. what does this ban accomplish? i mean, tagging for “gang territory” purposes went out with pagers… right? maybe? well certainly pagers are out.
also - i don’t have sympathy for terrible building developments which replace old chicago homes with 6-pack luxury condos with unique floorplans which i’ve seen tagged quite often. your architecture is much more offensive than any tag that may be sprayed on it. the spray paint can only help.
just uh. . . leave renzo out of it ok?
